Hi everyone and welcome to my place!
I’m happy to tell you that I am feeling a little better (not 100% though) and I managing blogging while working! 😀 It’s been… Interesting to say the least working in digital marketing and then come home and continue being Creative in this little blog 😛 But, enough about my life, let’s go to the main point which is my favourite video game ever!
If you have been following my blog, specially my video game posts, you probably already know that I’m a rpg fanatic, it’s my favorite genre so it is only natural that a lot of games like that are going to be in my Top10. Moreover you also know that I am a huge fan of the Final Fantasy series (I mean I have 2 of them in my top10) so it’s easy to conclude that my favorite game of all time is going to be a Final Fantasy xD So, without further ado, my favorite vÃdeo game of all time is:
Final Fantasy VII
Now, I know this is an emotional pick, I think the favorite video game for everyone has a more emotional attachment than a rational one. Why? Well, because there are a lot of perfect games out there but normally one stands out, so more than being a outsading game in your point of view also needs to have a great emotional impact on you!
Now, Final Fantasy VII was the first RPG I ever played and it made me fall in love with this genre, after Final Fantasy VII I embarked in a journey of a lot, and I mean a LOT, of excellent stories and excelent worlds! This way, Final Fantasy VII will always have a special place in my heart! I remember when I play this game I didn’t even know how to speak english, so imagine the difficulties I had to know how to continue the story! I was pleased every time I saw the characters coming out from Cloud because it meant the story was continuing (even though I didn’t understand 10% of what they were saying).
Now, let’s go into Final Fantasy VII in a little more rational way, starting with the incredible story:
You have 2 different points, one is saving the world by fighting Shinra and the other is also saving the world, but fighting Sephiroth the main antagonist. Now, I’m not going to explain completely the Sephiroth part because I don’t want to make spoilers 🙂
Shinra is a company that is disrupting the world as we see them, they use mako energy (which they extract it from the planet – see it like petrol more or less) to daily life stuff such as electricity. However, doing this they are killing the planet. This way Barret, Tifa, Jessie, Wedge and Biggs join up and form a group that fights against Shinra, to be honest if it was in real life at the present, they would be called terrorists probably. Cloud is there because Tifa, his childhood friend asked him for his help – Cloud is a former member of the elite Shinra army units called Soldier. You start the game and start with action right away by infiltration one of the mako reactors to bomb them.
Now, Sephiroth only appears a little later, but let’s face everyone knows about him. Cloud has as a personal mission to kill him because he set fire to his (and Tifa’s) hometown, killing a lot of people in the process. Sephiroth is a lone wolf and he is always travelling alone, the only thing you know about him in the beginning is that he is not in Shinra’s side, but he isn’t in humanity’s side either. Basically, he’s one of those bad guys that want to destroy the world. However, in this case you will have an explanation why does he want to do it. Although you probably not feel more empathetic towards him, at least you can understand his motives.
After finding that Sephiroth is still alive, everyone in the group (you will have more members in this part of the story) decides to follow you around the world following him, fighting Shinra at the process.
I really like the story, it made me feel a lot of feelings from happy to devastated, from laughing to really annoyed… It’s one of those games! 🙂 You may think that the premise is too straight forward, but it isn’t! The mains points to contribute for that are good plot twists and excellent complex characters.
This bring me to the second point. The characters:
I love almost all Final Fantasy 7 characters (not you Cait Sith! You suck!), being them protagonists or antagonist. Everyone has a past that constructs the characters’ personality, For example, there is a motive for why Barret is the way he is and why does he want to destroy Shinra (besides saving the planet) and everyone (not only Cloud) develops throughout the story. (My favorite female character from ALL TIME is Tifa! I didn’t want to give away too much in the 30 day challenge so I didn’t talk about her sorry!). (that one is from the movie – but I just love this fight scene so much!)
I think that this game really constructed their antagonists in a really good way. Even though considered bad, in reality you feel that they are just in the opposite side you are going. If the term were different probably everyone would just get along.
The gameplay:
It’s random encounter and turn-based, not really that different from any Final Fantasy until FF12 many years later. However, there are some things that I think that stand out from the other Final Fantasies:
- Limit Break – Used also in the other final fantasies, but I think this was one of the best. You basically have to deal/receive damage to do your special and everyone has a different special, you can build almost every character to have 7 limit breaks. It’s better than FF8 where you just had to have them in yellow life or FF9 with the trance thing;
- Materia – In FF7 you don’t have a specific role for any character. You play with anyone you want through materia which give you magic. So everyone can have cure spells and destructive spells at the same time. They could just have been a little more intelligent with the names and use what they always used like fire, fira, firaga vs. fire fire2 fire3 XD
Graphics:
Final Fantasy 7 was really disruptive for his time. Why? Because of the 3D! (If I’m not wrong it was the first RPG in 3D) Can you believe it? It’s so interesting to think that 24 years ago some game was being disruptive because of 3D graphics where their hands were like squares! Even though the game is really outdated, the game has this vibe that makes you want to play it! Because, even though the graphics are not PS4 like they aren’t also like “We are transitioning from ps1 graphics to ps3 graphics”. So, even though old if you want to experiment it as a classic you won’t feel really that burned down with the graphics. (Or you can wait for his remaster for PS4 coming next year – SO EXCITED FOR THAT!!!)
About the music… There is no voice over (of course!), I think the first voice over for final fantasy was with final fantasy X. However the OST is really good! It’s just… Final Fantasy style with lack with better words! xD There is always oe thing that they do right with the Final Fantasy games and that is the music! This one is my favorite! Brins a lot of feelings though!
Well… And I think that’s it! This game is just…. SO GOOD! Probably there will never be a game that will make me feel what Final Fantasy made me feel… But let’s face it, we can only have a first time to everything in life 😦
That’s all folks! Hope you liked it! Sorry for this going a little late, but I couldn’t write it yesterday and Schedule it! Tell me what is your favorite game in the comment below! And tell me why of course! 😀
I’m glad that you are feeling a little bit better. Knowing you love final fantasy so much, this choice really doesn’t come as a surprise 😊 I have never played this part, it came out just before I started videogames. But I know it is a clasic and there arena lot of people that really love this game. My favorite alltime game is the Mass Effect trilogy ( I know those are three games, but you really can’t see them separately as they form one continuous storyline) But, yeah that really was an amazing experience and one that I will never forget 😊

You should! Even today is a great game to play xD but if you have ps4 (I dunno of its going to go put for pc or Xbox) you can play the remaster…. I’m trying not to see anything because I want to be amazed, but while I was looking for images for the post I saw one of the remaster and it seems pretty dope!!!
Mass effects is a series that I have been postponing forever… Even though the game seems pretty good… It is in my lost of games to play before dying though xD

Haha, I have way too many lists like that as well lol. I have quit playing computergames about five years ago, after a particularly brutal online game of call of Duty. I had a great love for the world of games, and I guess I still do because I still like reading about them. But that said, I don’t plan to return to that world anytime soon 😊 Mass Effect is truly an amazing game though: I think you would love it, especially since reading about your taste for games 😊

I’ve not played a single FF game. Maybe I’m missing out…? Did that remaster come out yet? Maybe it’s time I gave the franchise a go…?

Really? Well, if you like RPGs, then yes you are missing out xD I mean, not all of them are THAT amazing. Final Fantasy 13 and 15 were not really that great. Although 15 has many fans.
Nope, not yet! I think they will only work at it seriously after Kingdom Hearts 3
If you don’t mind (really) bad voice acting I would recommend you to start with 10. By far the one which has the best story xD
